From Baby Steps to Seasoned Strides

January 30th 2010

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

It started as a great idea.  A project to fulfil my passion and earn me my worth.

I have created a couple of products before but they were easy to do.   This was a big idea, almost a massive project.

A comprehensive internet marketing package for the novice!  Something I would have been grateful for 3 years ago when I was introduced to internet marketing at my first internet seminar.

It took me a long time to learn what I know now.  Taking baby steps was what I had to do to learn one bit at the time and mostly the hard way.

So I wanted to make it easy for others.  All you need to know to start a business on the internet.

I’m not saying I am doing this from the goodness of my heart, although there is no doubt about my good intentions, but I am doing it because I’ve made this my business.  This is how I want to work and earn a living.  This is how I want to be able to support myself and my family without having to go out and work for someone else.

And of course helping others gives me a kind of satisfaction that I can’t put a price on. So what I get out of this is of huge value to me both financially and compassionately-

I thought this would be a worthy project to take on. A challenging project, but I do like challenges, I thrive on that.

A comprehensive course on Internet marketing for the novice. From baby steps to seasoned strides!

A complete package with videos, audios, books, articles and reports.  It’s a huge package and it covers everything from how to get a domain name and hosting to how to chose what to sell on line to how to drive traffic to your site and make those sales.

And of course this whole thing will be accompanied by a budget membership! For on going support.

By budget I mean it will cost a pittance!  Really I’ve seen people charging anything from $97 to $125 per month for their membership sites.

My membership site will not cost anywhere near that.  In fact I am only going to use one digit to price the membership fee.

One digit I say!  A number from one to nine!  Haven’t decided yet  whether to make it a primary number or a composite  number!  but there’s still time.

Just in case you’re not good with maths, primary numbers are numbers that can be divided only by 1 or by themselves, otherwise they leave a remainder- these are 1,2,3,5 and 7.

Composite numbers are 4,6,8 and 9- they can be divided by multiples and reduced to lowest terms in fractions.

There, that’s the teacher in me blooming already!

Never ending Story!

January 28th 2010

I gave you a brief history of how I got into Internet Marketing.  But I realise that perhaps I left the story unfinished.  Though I must warn you.  This is a never ending story!! Well at least while I am still alive and kicking and that could be for a long time!!

So to carry on from that last post, I need to bring you up to speed.

It was at a recent seminar, a few months ago that I suddenly realised, Hey, I know most of the stuff  they’re talking about!  I am almost an expert myself, because I have tried these methods and got results.

At the coffee break, I found myself outside, with a small crowd around me asking me all sorts of questions.  Not just about the theme of the seminar but also about my experiences and my opinion about certain techniques, from traffic to copywriting.

I almost surprised myself as I had no problem answering their questions.  In fact most of the things they asked me about made me giggle a bit as they were such simple and basic things.

Yeah, simple and basic now but reminded me of myself a couple of years back when I didn’t have  a clue and I had to learn the hard way.

It was then that I came up with the idea to create some sort of a course for the beginner.

Originally, I wanted to do  physical one or two day classes.  I even looked up venues for hiring and audio visual equipment .

Then I thought maybe if I created a digital product and a membership site for on going support, it would help many more people and it wouldn’t deprive me of the one thing I have been longing for and that is to be able to work in my night gown!! Rather than having to get dressed to go out to work.

And of course it makes it easier for people to take the course since they can learn in their own time and from the comfort of their home.

I thought this would be a worthy project to take on.  A comprehensive course on Internet marketing for the novice. To teach everything they need to know to start an Internet business from the ground up.

From baby steps to seasoned strides!  An  Internet Marketing course in a box.

Retire Early

January 27th 2010

Isn’t it remarkable how things can suddenly develop and take you by surprise?

It’s like watching a baby learn to walk.  From crawling on all fours to standing on two feet and taking real steps doesn’t really take that long, but while your watching and anticipating, it can feel like an eternity.  However, you blink and you almost miss the transition!

Well, this is what happened to me with my Internet marketing steep learning curve!

It was just over three years ago when I was introduced to Internet Marketing.  I was looking into property business at the time and stumbled upon a site that was delivering exactly what I was looking for.  An opportunity to make enough money to enable me to get into the property market.

This was not like any other business opportunity I had experienced before, this was not promoting yet another scam, this was a real, plausible business idea.  And an invitation to a free two day seminar was not just enticing but it was to me just out of this world!  What?  All that for free?  I never got anything for free before let alone a two day seminar packed with information and ideas.

And it was on that faithful summer day that I was totally and utterly hooked!  The idea that you could create multiple streams of income on the Internet and have your sites running day and night collecting money for you even while you sleep, the fact that you could target a global market without even stepping outside your house, wowed me like nothing had done until then.

And then came the irresistible torrents of information.  I was like a zealous child in a rubber dingy riding the waves!  People were complaining about being overwhelmed and bursting from information overload, but I was just quietly soaking up the information like a magic sponge.

Yes I got a pounding head ache at the end of that week- end.  Yes I had sleepless nights, that week end and for a long time afterwards and yes, it felt like I had come back to a false world on Monday morning after the week-end seminar, having to go to work.

But I didn’t complain of information overload, I just couldn’t get enough of it!  The head aches and sleepless nights were only because  I was  trying to process and organise all that information, finding a way to put them to practice.

I went to many more seminars after that, Free ones as well as paid ones, bought many manuals, books, software programs, joined membership and mentoring programs…  it became a routine for me to get on my computer every night after work, spending time to learn and implement.

Starting right at the beginning with small steps, sometimes painful and often very slow but always with enthusiasm and hope.

Well, I have come a long way since then and you know what?  Looking back, I now believe that for the amount of information I have gathered and for the volume of knowledge I have gained, three years is not really that long and it has gone like a flash.

I believe I have been quite successful for success is not measured so much by the position that you reach in life as by the obstacles you have overcome.  And I have come through so many obstacles I could write a “war and peace” length book about them! And truth be told, I have reached the position in life that I wanted to reach as well.

Not only that, it has already started to pay off.   Not huge amounts, but enough to keep me interested and have me carry on knowing that if you can make a little, you can also make a lot.

They say the most difficult part of internet marketing is making your first dollar and I have made much much more than that.  So that bridge is crossed!

I have managed to create some cool products that helped me build a list, and I am half way through creating another product to help the novice. (more on this later).

And, the best part, I am getting ready to retire this year.  Yes  Jack my J.O.B and be my own boss.  Work when I want, holiday where I want and do what I want.  That’s right it’s ME time.

The secret is longevity

January 23rd 2010

If  you weren’t getting good results by giving away a free report to your niche, You’d wonder what you’re doing wrong right? Well the answer is that you’re not doing anything wrong you just need to change what you’re doing. Try offering audio, or video or software. Work on improving your landing page copy.

Here’s another example: let’s say one of your traffic sources wasn’t performing very well. You would definitely want to look at your advertising copy before you decide that source is junk, right?

The main point I want to get across here is that the proven money-making models aren’t going anywhere. What happens is that Internet usage patterns fluctuate, and customer needs fluctuate.

All you have to do is stay on top of the emerging trends in your target market, and adjust accordingly. Last but not least…

It’s important that you strive for consistency, focus and patience.

You do face a fair amount of competition online, but it is not insurmountable. In fact, do you want to know one of the real secrets to making money online?

That secret is longevity

The longer you’re in business, the stronger your business gets.

Part of this has to do with exposure. You build up your visibility and brand awareness over time. You keep at it and you garner name recognition, which is very important.

If you stick to your guns, you’ll find that competition comes and goes, while you maintain a solid presence in your niche. People trust and respect that sort of longevity, and you’ll reap the rewards.

The Big Picture

January 22nd 2010

There are literally dozens of ways to make money online but, for most beginners this variety is the problem. Too many different models to choose from and no solid game plan for working any one of them.

Some marketers have their hands in two or three or four different business models. This can be done with experience, but it spells disaster for newbies.

In order to make it to your first $1,000 online, you need to choose just ONE money-making business model, and stick to it.

In other words, you need to learn how to walk before you can run. Once you completely master one business model, then you can consider adding on different tactics.

So, the first thing to realize about the big picture is that the opportunities are out there, and you can succeed, if you have the discipline to focus on just one, proven business model.

The second thing to realize is that…

While the ‘rules’ of the game may change, the fundamentals never do.

What does this mean?

It means that everything you learn in terms of marketing best practices, like: how to set up a website, how to capture and market to leads on your opt-in list, how to write great pre-sell and sales copy – will always be an essential part of your skill set.

And this also means you should ignore any hype you come across that claims certain long-standing, proven models are somehow ‘dead’ (eg, internet marketing, email marketing, affiliate marketing).

When you see things like that, all it really means is that some of the tactics are in flux.

For example, there is some evidence that it’s getting harder to lure in subscribers using the ‘free content’ trick.

However, think about where this tactic might be losing its effectiveness.  It’s mostly in the Internet marketing “how to” niche; not in the less saturated, non-marketing-related niches.

Further, even if “everyone” online suddenly became less responsive to these tactics, all that’s necessary is a change in strategy.

I hope you are not already overwhelmed with all the above.  If you are a complete novice, you may be, but do not fear.  The course I am preparing is just for you and you will be shown step by step all that you need to do, from creating a website, to getting traffic to it to finding your niche etc. etc…..
